FULL DAY Pre-School

Full Day Pre-School Program Philosophy.

The information presented below is the philosophy of Wendy’s Neverland, as well as a guideline as to what you can expect from our Full Day pre-school program.

The philosophy of Wendy’s Neverland pre-school program is to introduce the pre-school age child to a playful and structured environment where they can learn through play. Our Full Day pre-school program is for children from ages 3 to 5 years old. We set out different learning goals for each age group.

Our goals in this program are to help the children get ready for school. We will help further their social skills as well as help them prepare academically for school, such as ABC’s and 123’s.  This is why it is important to introduce a structured learning environment, and the children will play and learn in our fun and educational centre.

It is important for children to learn how to interact with other children. They will learn to share and communicate with one another, and be introduced to a routine, such as clean-up time, story time, circle time, craft and free-play. which is a very important part of a child’s learning process, This is important to help them prepare for pre-school next year.

Friday’s will be school readiness for full day program. Teachers will be concentrating on Literacy printing, math and recognition skills.

Now introducing:  ‘’Tumblebugs’ into the Full-Day Pre-School classes on Tuesday’s.

Pre-School Behaviour Guidance

Wendy’s Neverland believes it is important to emphasize the positive behaviour and not concentrate on the negative.  Guiding behaviour is an ongoing process, not one of discipline. We will emphasize on the good, by setting positive examples. Helping children to gain self-control is learning       process. We need to be there to assist so it is redirected in a positive manner. We are there to help them think and solve problems, and try to communicate trust and respect. This will give children a feeling of being worthwhile and trusted.

Any behaviour, which is seen as an ongoing concern, will be observed closely by the staff and discussed with the parents. All staff will keep written observations of ongoing behaviours that require persistent monitoring.

Any harm done to another’s body, including staff, will be discussed with the parent’s on the first incident.

Challenging behaviour, such as verbal, punching, kicking, spitting and biting will be closely observed by all staff and will be discussed confidentially with the parents.  All incidents will be recorded by staff and reports shared with the parents, (signature requested).

Our childcare centre recognizes the importance of the families and would like to work closely and effectively with them. We hope all parent’s will communicate in a positive way with us, and help minimize potential conflicts and confusion.

Pre-School Health Policy.
The Health Department requires all child care facilities to have a formal health policy which governs attendance of children in our school. To keep everyone healthy, the following policy is in place.

A child is to remain/be sent home under the following conditions.

  • Fever of ‘’100’’ F or higher ( before administering acetaminophen).
  • Diarrhoea 2x during the morning.
  • Vomiting.
  • General malaise including listlessness, headache, chills.
  • Persistent coughing, or green nasal discharge.
  • Unexplained rashes.
  • Communicable condition including chickenpox, pneumonia, measles, flu, pinkeye, etc.
  • If he/she has had surgery requiring general anaesthesia within the previous 24 hours

As well, parents are asked to call the school when their child is absent due to illness and to inform us of any infectious conditions as listed above. Absences due to lice and scabies should also be reported. We are required to post a notice informing others at the school of what infection has occurred and in what class. To protect your privacy, we do not identify who has the infection except in extreme cases in which the Health Department would be involved.

Teachers do visual wellness checks on all the children as they arrive and may question any apparent illness. We feel that if a child is too sick to play, then that child should stay home. Please call the office if you have any questions concerning this policy.
